ROTORUA MAORIS.
EIGHT TO TiROUT-FISHING. WELLINGTON, August IS. In reference to the controversy that has been going on in regard tQ the necessities of the Maoris at Rotorua, Mr T. M. Wilford, M.P., who has been endeavouring to obtain for the Maoris permission to fish ill the Abaters of that district, is in receipt of the following telegram: — '"As representatives of the Nativ-es in the Rotorua district, we desire to express our appreciation of your services in championing our cause. Many of the Natives in the different settlements are in a state of great need. The right to fish for trout as food Avould— be of inestimable benefit to a large number of XatiA-es. Do your utmost for us." The telegram bears the signatures of Taekata Te Naera, Waharoa, Wiri Batete, Tai Mitchell, and the Rev. Messrs Bennett r.nd Timutimi Kopere.
