the ceremony of presenting the prizes at the meeting of the Palmerstor Draughts Club last Wednesday evening, occasion was taken? to make a presentation to Mr J Macfarlane, who has been honorary secretary of the club since its formation. In presenting Mr Macfarlane with a handsome watchguard and locket, suitably inscribed, the chairman (Mir L. R. Morris) referred in very complimenrfcary terms bo the energy and enthusiasm displayed by their secretary in ..he discharge of hia duties. Mir Macfarlane thanked the members for the present he had just received, and th« j chairman for hie very kind remarks. Hia j associations with the members had been most i pleaeant, and he was pleased k> know that i anything he had done toi help along the club had been appreciated by the Iraughts playera of the district. Mr Macfarlane's health was duly toasted, and all joined in singing " Fo? he's a jolly good fellow " Mr Hilliker's Northern Vi=ii — Next weel< • - we hope to find space for a few games an<| endings played by Mr Hilliker at Ashburton and Waimaie on his recent vi«it.
