LESSON TO BE LEARNT. SYDNEY, August 24.
The Herald says : " One result of the cruise, of the American fleet is sure> to- be a quickening of the imagination of Australia, Canada, and South. Africa to a sense of their part in the sea power of the Empire, and ' it would be a shrewd, sound policy, anl one worthy of a great statesman, to contrive that a great British fleet should in a- similar way visit the King's Dominions Beyond the Seas. But though. th& Imperial aspect of the visit is fraught with deep meaning, perhaps what is uppermost in the minds of the majority is the happy parallelism between America and Australia as Pacific States. In a dim way we tTy to realise what the future of the Pacific must be. That the centre of gravity of the world's commerce is moving towards a point within it seems c&itain, and bound up with this manifest destiny is the manifest destiny of amity anil concord between- America and Great Britain."
