THE HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM.
WELLINGTON, August 24. - The High Commissioner cabled as follows from* London on .August 22: — Mutton. — There is & -good demand for prime quality mutton, light weights. With this exception, trade in all classes of mutton Ss very slow, and prices ,are barely mainiained.' The supply of Canterbury brands is' practically exhausted.^ North Island piutton is quoted at 3£d. Lamb. — The market is steady, and the (demand is chiefly for light weights. Canterbury lamb is quoted at s|d;/ other than .Canterbury, sid. Beef. — The market is firm, owing to the* reduced supplies. Some of the New Zealand beef now on- the maficet is of inferior quality, but from the Argentine there is very fine quality. New Zealand hand--quarters are quoted at 4fd; forequarters, 3&d. - Butter. — The market v is firm, and moderate business is doing. " Danish butter is quoted at 120s, Siberian 108s, Canadian 116s. Cheese. — The market is firm, with a good demand. The following are the ouararent quotations- — Canadian makes, 61s; ' New Zealand white, 61s; coloured, 60s. - Hemp. — The market is quiet tund rather . IBteadier, ' Good fair ■ grade on spot is quoted at" "£26 15s; fair grade on spot, £23; jfair > current , Manila on spot, £23 ss. 'October-December shipments are quoted as follow: — Good fair grade, £26 10s; fair grade, £23 ; fair current Manila, £23. ' Last week's .output- from. Manila v amounted to , 19,000 bales.
