Weddel's Annual Review refers to the remarkable improvement in Queensland butter, which is attributed largely t: the strictness of grading. The Review advocates compulsory grading and stamping the number of the grade on the boxes. It considers it probable that the average values for butter and cheese for the coming season will be somewhat lower than those of the last. Wheats The markets are inanimate, with a weak tendency. There is a general indisposition to speculate. Cargoes are difficult to move, and prices are unchanged. Flour: Dull. Australian patent is offering in Glasgow at £27. The American visible supply of wheat and flour is 26,000,761 bushels. In the Bradford wool market there is a moderate inquiry, but business L= small. Common sixties, 22£ d; super, 23£ d. August 23. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,005,000

quarters, and for the Continent 1,343,000 quarters. T»*e Atlantic shipments were 462,000 quarters, and the total shipment to Europe for the week 1,000,000 bushels, including 175,000 from the Argentine and Uruguay. Hemp : Firm. August and October shipment, £26 15s ; October and December, £26 10s. Cheese : New Zealand, 60s to 625 ; Canadian, 60s to 61s. Rabbits : Quiet, but firm. Hares : Scarce ; about 2s. Hides : The periodical sales were neglected ; 5000 were offered, but there were no sales. Leather : .Unchanged. Basils sold at par to id' advance. First Wellington, loid to 16id. Frozen Meat.— Mutton : Both New Zealand and River Plate sorts ar,e unchanged. Lambs unchanged. Beef : Fores, 3ad ; hinds, 4id for both New Zealand and River Plato. Wire netting is quoted at 62£ per cent. and 85 per cent, off the list.
