Monday Evening. : On Tuesday evening Mrs Robert furabull. Leitb street entertained a fe-w friends at dinner. The table was prettily dscora-ted -with red japonica and asparagus ■ lern. Mrs Turnbull, who received hex guests in the drawing room jpas becomingly attired in soft gTey silk handsomely trimmed <wi I tsh lace. •On Thursday evening the members jf the Otago Rowing Club held their annual -ball in • the Art Gallery: A great number of invitations had been sent out, and the ball proved ♦j great success. Tie 'halF, or danteing loom, wliich proved most .suitable, wasdecorated with bunting and flags. The stage, w-here Messrs Yates's Band played during Jie evening, was prettily decorated Tvith " palms and ferns. The Jnner hall ,was divided into two rooms, one p*rt forming. iie supper room and the other * rendezvous ior the dancers. V -Screens. comfortable chairs, and lounges were placed all about it. and with heat-era employed the room was turned into quite a drawing room. Supper, which . was dispensed in the other part of the hall, was partaken of a* small tables, and also at a. large table pl-aoed rigjbt down the ; centre of the room, wnich looked very "tem.pt- ' ing witih the many dainties placed thereon.
