WHELCH CHALLENGED BY THOROUGHGOOD.
WANGANUI, August 14. Thoroughgood, champiofi sculler of Australia, writes to "Victor," of the Wanganni Herald, asking him to let Whelch know about his challenge to him. Thorougbgood deeires a reply at once, as he has received a^ challenge from Pearoe, but if Whelch" -will row the Australian champion will give him the first race. The race is to be for 43200 a-side, and Thoroughgood Trill allow Whelch £50 for expenses if he loses. Ifc would be for the championship of Australia, and would have to be rowed thexe.
