FLEET RACE MEETING. AUCKLAND, August 12.

The race meeting promoted by the Fleet Executive in honour of the visiting squadron took place at Ellerslie to-d-av in beautiful weather, and was attended by - an immense concourse of visitors to the city and officers and men of the American warships. His Excellency the Governor, Lady Plunket. and the Hon. Kathleen Pluniet, attended by their suite, were present, as were also Admiral Sperry and his brother Admirals and Admiral Poore, the distinguished visitors being received by thp club officials. Some ifood racing was witnessed, and everything went with a good awing. .Results : — WELCOME HURDLE HANDICAP.^ One mile and a-half. Mr Thackwaite's br g Otaroa, 9.6 (Flynn) 1 Mr E. S. Master Crispin 9.5, Octoroon 9.5, Anna Lombard 9.4, Carlyle 9.0, Darkness 9.0, and San Paulo. San Paulo jumped away in front, and led over the first fence, where Master Crispin fell. The leader maintained the advantage "till reaching the cutting, btit then fell back. Half a mile from home Otaroa commenced to move up, and. heading the leading division in the run home, won by a length from Poplar, who was followed at an interval of three lengths by Mark Time. Time, 2min 59sec.

THE ROOSEVELT HANDICAP.

Hautapu was early in the lead, and when the water was reached he was showing the way, half a dozen lengths in front of Creusot, and then came Dolores. Along the back Creusot was within two lengths of Hautapu. Dolores fell at the 6od wall, and when the double was reached Hautapu was in front,' followed by Cinque *nd Creusot, together. At the old water jump Oinque lost her rider, who, however, remounted. This left Creusot in the lead two lengths in front of Hautapu, and then came Pipi and Sol. Ascending the hill for the last time Creusot showed the way. /Pipi took charge at the top of the hill, but in the descent Creusot was in front again, with Sol at the head of the others.
