SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS

The ordinal*? monthly meeting of (he ©tago School Commissioners, held yesterJday, was attended by Messrs William Dallas (chairman), E. H. Wilmot, Donald Borrie, and Thomas Mac Gibbon.

On the motion of the chairman, seconded s>> Mr MaeGibbon. it was resolved that the ommissionei-. desire to express their deep regret at the loss they have sustained by **>i death of their late colleajrup, the Hon.

Henry Feldwick, and instruct the secretary to forward their heartfelt condolence to Mrs Feldwick and family in their bereavement. The individual commissioners spoke feelingly of the deep loss they had sustained, and the motion was carried standing. The meeting then adjourned as a mark of respect to their late colleague. R. W. Ballantyne wrote stating in connection with his application for prospecting right that be only intends to sink three holeSj which he will undertake to fill up again.— The writer to be informed that the commissioners would be satisfied if he obtained a letter from anyone approved of by them guaranteeing that all damage will be made good. i The Rangei reported in re Mr J. H. I Steven's complaint in regard to the le- [ moval of a fence on his leasehold. — Rei ceived. I A memo, was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Dunedin, statins; that in his opinion the solicitor's fee for perusal of exchange of land at Meadowbank should be paid by the School Conimis- ■ sioners. — Received. | Messi-s Inder and Cochrane wrote on be- ■ half of John Turnbull and Aifcken Bros., lessees of the Wendon and Otama Runs, to have the dividing line between them defined, and asking- for the approval of the commissioners to the fence. — The lence as suorgeeted^was approved. j Robert Barclay applied for renewal of lease of section 18, block XI. Town of J Mataura. To be renewed on yearly lease t on same terms as at present. I A memo, was received, from Commisi sioner of Crown Lands at Inveroarg-ill.'stat-ing that the sale of reserves which the com mission-ers wish to dispose of under The Land Act will be held at Invercargill m about two months, and that Messrs W. Todd and Co. have been recommended as auctioneers. The ranger's monthly report was received and adopted.— Mr Caldwell to be offered > a yearly lease of section 66, block I, Oteramika, at Is per acre. Mr Mac Gibbon and the Ranger reported on. xdamajre done to the commissioners' lan-J in the Wendon district by the Waikaia River from Messrs Miller Bros.' holding to Mr Joseph Cooper's : also on groins at Dome Creek, and ford over the Waikaia. River leading to the coal pits. — Report reoeived. Mr J. Cooper, lessee of section 2, block 11, Wendon. to be instructed to prohibit the public from going through his land. It was also decided to obtain an estimate for the cost of dredging the Waikaia River between the farms of Messrs ' Cooper and Miller. D. L. Poppelwell wrote applying for consent to the transfer of lease of section 3 of 243. Hokonui district, from Donald Ross , to Alex. Anderson. — Agreed to on the usual conditions. The ranger's diary was received. A letter was received from the secretary j of the Muddy Terrace Sluicing Company j asking for permission to take a pipe 'me through the quarry reserve at Wendon. — It was decided that the applicant be asked to supply a sketch showing the route of the pipe, line through the commissioners' land. R. Johnstone wrote stating that the recent flood had done some damage to his leasehold sections 3 and 4. block I, Awamoko.—Ranger to be instructed to visit and report. Accounts amounting to £98 Is 2d were passed for payment. |
