FERRO-CONCRETE.
(From Oub Own Cokuespondent.) AUCKLAND, Maroh 12. People interested in the subject of ferr* concrete versus wooden wharves wouhj have a good object lesson in the experi« ence of the railway wharf. During th< recent gale the barque Geni, heavily laden* was poundinpr heavily against the 1 wharf all Saturday and Sunday, and ground all hei fenders to matchwood and struck the wharf in all sorts of ways, almost coming down on top of it during the high tide. So severe were the concussions that the »hip dented her plates and received damaga which will coefc a few hundreds to repair i but the wharf stood ac firm as a rock, ana was not even chipped. Authorities etate that had the wharf been of wood the vessel would have almost knocked it to pieces.
