MURDER AT SEA
♦ SYDNEY, March 10. In connection with the sensational eequel to the story of the wreck of the «chooner Neuvr© Tigre, Jackson told Mr Hayes that at the time of the attack the schooner was 14 miles off the land. When the captain jumped overboard, Jack«on threw him a plank, but now believes that he failed to secure it, and that both the captain and the mate were drowned. When. Mr Hayes left, Mortimer and Jackson were under arrest at Tarawa, ■where the authorities were communicating •with the Italian Consul at Callao with a view to identifying the stolen vessel. Mortimer was reticent, and refused to «ay anything when shown Jackson's confession. A native magistrate wa6 placed in charge of the schooner, which is in an exposed position, and likely to break up.
