NAPIER RAM FAIR.

A RECORD ENTRY.

NAPIER, January 30.

The annual ram fair was commenced at Hastings to-day. The entry was a record one. All the stud rams and the shearlings and two-shear Lincoln and Eomnev flock rams were offered to-day. Other flock rams will be submitted to-morrow. There was a large attendance of buyers, and satisfactory prices were realised. Lincoln studs sold un to 32ge, which was obtained for a shearling bred by "W. Rayner (Masterton), 52gs being realised for a shearling bred by the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, who got 49gs for another shearling ; and T. Manner's studs sold up to 47gs. W. Perry obtained 46g8, 40gs, 32gs, 28gs. 27gs, and 25gs for six of hie studs. The highest price for one' of Mr Bland Rayner's Lincoln, studs was 27ge. Flock Lincolns ranged up to llgs. Romney Marsh flocks sold up to 9gs, this sum being realised for 10 shearlings bred by W. E. Bidwell (Wairarapa). Romney Marsb etude brought up to 45ge and 32gs, both prices beinar for rams bred by E. J. Riddiford (Lower Hutt). Only four Border Leicester studs were sold, these going to 4?gs. The top price for Southdowns was 14gs for one of Mr George Rhodes's rams.

January 31. The ram fair was concluded to-day, when flock rams of the Border Leicester, Southdowns, English Leicester, and Corriedalee (all ages), and Lincoln and Romney flocks (three-shear and over) were offered. Ltncolns and Romneys in most instances brought fair prices, but the other varieties were slow of 6al«. Lincolns brought up to three guineas, which price was P&id f° r 20 three-fchear sheep bred by D. S. Fleming, Wanstead. Romneye realised up to 43 guineas, this being obtained for fourshears bred by E. Eglinton, Feathereton. Ten Border Leicester shearlings bred by Nelson Bros. (Limited) brought 33 guineas (top price for that variety). For Southdowns 7£ guinea* was the highest figure, and this was obtained for some shearlings bred by George Rhodes, Ellesmere, Canterbury Corriedales sold at 2 guineas, and English Leicesters at half a guinea.
