February 3 — The want of rain is to be seen in this district by the parched appearance of the ground, what little grass there is being all dried up. The outlook for the dairy-farnieT« is none too promising, and "we are likely to have a repetition of last year's experience. The milk supply is decreasing rapidly, and unless rain conies very soon there will be no feed for the winter anonths.

Fishing.— There is not much doing in the fishing industry, ordinary catches being the rule, just allowing the fishermen to earn enough to keep the pot boiling. School Picnic. — The annual school picnic ■waa held on Friday in a paddock lent for tbo occasion by Mr A. Carmichael, and though the weather was not very good there ■waa a large attendance of children, parents, and friends. Races and other eports were enjoyed by all present, and a pleasant part of the afternoon's enjoyment was the presentation of prizes to all the children attending the school. Refreshments were provicled in abundance, and, despite the cold "wind and' the rain showers, all seemed to enjoy themselves. A douce wa3 held in (the ovening in the school, and was well attended, the limited acommodation showing the necassity for a hall or suitable building (or such purposes. However, in spite of •the crowded school, all enjoyed the picnic dance.
