In Charge of the Motor.
Recently two Sydney business men went for a run in their mtoor. On their return to town, the weather being sultry, they pulled up at a well-known hotel for refreshment. While they were washing down suburban dust a friend of theirs, a noted practical joker, sized up the situation and saw an oportunity. Going outside, he found a sturdy "dead-beat." To him he said: "Mind the motor till I come back, and I'll give you a shilling. On no account allow anyone in." The contract was closed. Presently the owners of the car, having "had another," left th& hotel to resume their journey. They were not a little astonished to find a 6tranger in possession, -and promptly told him to "get." The new chauffeur, firm as Fort Oenison, flatly refused to budge. "But," said the gentleman, "we are owners of the car."

Here the practical joker intervened, explained ruatters, and rewarded his trusty caretaker
