Concerning Earache.

It will be necessary in cases of earache to apply warmth to the ear. This may be effected either by the- application of hot fomentations, or by wrapping the affected ear in thermogene wadding. Relief of the pain may be effected by these hot applications. It will be well also to obtain a mixture of equal parts of laudanum and almond oil. Dip a teaspoon in hot water, 6O as to warm it, and after shaking Sh© mixture, place 18 drops of it in the warns teaspoon, and pour this into the affected ear, the patient to lie on Jho opposite side, so as to allow the mixture to pass easily into the ear, the opening of which should then be closed by a plug of cotton wool. Relief of the pain may sometimes be obtained by the cautious use of an ordinary clean clap pipe, into the bowl of which is placed a little cotton wool. On this a few drops ' of chloroform, axe sprinkled, and the vapour is then blown through the stem of the pipe into the ear. For the relief of pain and to procure sleep in a bad case of earache, it may be well to give a dose of 20 grains of bromide of potash in water, this being the dose to an adult Ten grians of antipyrin of two tabloids may, says Dr Andrew Wilson, also have the same effect in lessening the pain, more especially if of neuralgic character. In the case of any suppuration taking place, and where the drum of _ the ear is in any way affected, an ear specialist should 1 be consulted at once.

If you take iron don't take it just beforu or after meat or coffee. Take it "Between meals, otherwise a tannate of iron will be formed. This is really ink, and it is not good to have it in one's interior. Those who take iron will be wise in receiving- it through a straw or quill. This will lessen the chances of the teeth becoming stained. When tSe iron is an acid preparation the teeth should be cleansed immediately after with, chalk or cuttle-fish powder.' _ Up to a certain, but almost indefinable point, exercise for men and women may have an identical character, and be. equally beneficial. One can «ay this oi tennis, walking, dancing, and 1 swimming. . But beyond this, in that more strenuous class o£ exercises whose end is to_ make muscle, the results~do not give satisfaction in the sexes equally. Quite apart from considerations of health— and these demand careful ' attention — there is the plain truth- tb*t a very muscular woman is necessarily "trithont those rounded outlines that constitute thehighest type of feminine beauty. Her form approaches or reaches the masculine intype. Her muscles are knotty. The masculine type of beauty demands very little outward" fat. The feminine type demands a good deal. It should* be a smooth layer, filling in all hollows and covering up aIF angles. What women should do is to take up only those exercises- that make for grace and health, to forego all attempts at becopaincr athletes, and to aim by diet or otherwise either at acquiring or lessening- ff*, according to the needs of the case.

— Two countrymen were discusing* one day a newly-erected pillar-box in a villape street. Per a long time they were unable to think of its use. Suddenly -one said :. "I know. It belongs to the Salvation Army; that is why it, if jpainted r«d." . But after « little consideration the other said: "That's wrong, Pat. It 'can't belong to them, because it says, 'No collection on Sundays.' "
