Game 6498. — " Bristol-Cross. Played between It. O. Dobson and J. B. | Hatton, by correspondence.
(Notes and variations by Mr Hatton.) (a) Not so strong as 16 20. (b) As far as I know this leaves published play. The following is the usual continuation : —
* This fine move was given by Mr C. Russell, New Pitsligo, in the People's Journal, in 1894, to correct " Lee's Guide." (y.) The play is left here as a White win, but Mr John Kirk continues, and shows the above neat draw. (c) Some neat play arises from 25 22. ?d) Stronger than 18 25, 2 6, etc. (c) This move loses; the following leads to a narrow draw: —
(w) If 18 15, 7 10, 15 6, 2 9, 32 28, 9 14, 19 15, 17 21, 25 22, 14 17, 22 18, 16 19, draws. (f) A very pretty move which forces a nice win. Both 19 15 and 19 16 draw.— People's Journal. Game 6499. — "Double Corner." Played at Orange, N.J., by Messrs Herman Zink and James P. Murray. Zink's move. Black — Zink. White — Murray.
(a) In another game Mr Zink played 12 16. (b) Mr Zink afterwards showed the following improvement on his opponent's playt—
{c) 9 13 appeals to the editor, for, if answered by /32 28, then 3 8 is forcible, and if 30 26 or 30 25, then 11 16, with a> fine game. —Newark Call.
