WJ3LLINGTON, - The High Commissioner's cable from London reads thus: — Mutton.—/ The market looks very weak. There are a number of sellers, but buyers are not inclined <to make forward purchases at present prices. Current quotations: Can- | terbury, 3f d; North Island, 3Jd; Australian; i 21&; River Plate, 3d. Australian lamb is in large supply, but j of inferior quality, and stocks are accumu- ' lating. Australian brands are quoted at 5Jd to 3Jd. - j Beef.—Market dull, the supplies of Ameri- j can chilled beef being large and cheap. New Zealand' hindquarters,' 31d; f orequarters, 2|d. Butter.—Market very firm, the demand being greater than the supply, especially for second-class quality for shilling trade. There is every prospect of th« trig prices continuing ( for some time. Cheese.—Market very firm, ■with a 'much' bttter demand, and prospects are favourable. New Zealand, cheese is giving satisfaction to buyers Ccfouxed makes 61s, -white 62s per cwt. ' There are signs of improvement in the hemp market, and a fair amount of business is being done. The: following are the current quotations:—Good $air grade, on the spot, £29; fair grade, 09 the spot, £28; fair current Manila, on the spot, £29 10s; JanuaryMarch shipments, good fair grade, £28 10s; fair grade. 27 10s; fair current Manila, £30. Cocksfoot Seed.—The market is very firm; ■ no change in prices to report. The shipments of Kiver Plate meat up to December 31 are:—Mutton—London, 104,192 carcases; Liverpool, 108,362; Hull, 17,871; Southampton, 1100; Cardiff, 12,477; Newcastle, 9390; Plymouth, 1357. Lamb—London, 224; Liverpool, 3356; Hull, 584; Cardiff, 300 Wool.-c The market is quiet, but firm.
