GASES.
Game played between M. Niemzowiteh, the young Russian, master (White), and P S. Leonhardt, of London (Black), in the Miftsters' International Tourney at Ostend: —
Kotes ttt The Field. (a) A pleasing variation on the usual P-Q 4. jt appears* moreover^ to be ftuit* sound.
(b) The suggestion of deadly dulness which this move creates is not borne out by the subsequent play. White, it soon appears, has no intention of merely following routine. (c) Black, in playing to gain 'aya v Pawn at this stage of the game," does not display very sound judgment. Perhaps he was presuming on the supposed inexperience of his extremely youthful adversary. (d) White's pieces are splendidly posted. (c) Xt-Xt 5, compelling 16 P-K B 3, might have afforded some relief. '
(p) After this it seems that Black must lose a piece, the result of the unfortunate and premature attack of the Kt> on the White Q. ' .
