WAIMATE.
December 28. — The various echools in an 3 around Waimate have been celebrating the annual, break-up in a "variety of ways. The ceremony in connection with the local district High. School took place in the 033- " fellows' Hall, Mr Coltman, chairman of the School Committee presiding. Mrs Manchea- ~ t«r, the wife of the Mayor, presented the prizes, and the Rev. G. Barclay, chairman of the: High School Board, and Rev. M'Kenzie Gibson addressed the gatherVng. The latter gentleman. representing the_ Ministers' Association, presented Sic prizes in connection with the Jcripture classes. The dux of the school yAlioe Bonie) -was enthusiastically applauded, fnere is a; fine Cadet corris in connection Njith this school, which holds its own in the " 'arovincial rifie /"nujetition*
"The Waitima- Greek School (Mr Hertslet, chairman; Mi Menzies, headmaster; Mrs Bruce, mistress) held a picnic and sports in connection with the prize-giving. The committees at Waihao Downs and Hunters arranged excursions to Oaioline Bay, Tima.ru. In connection with the M-orven School (Mr Clarke and Miss Smart, teachers), the Rev. Geo. Barclay addressed the gathering, and presented th© prizes. At the Willowbridge- School, the Rev. Geo. Barclay presented the general prizes, and the Rev. Mr Morrison the prizes in connection with the Scripture classes. Mr Bradshaw thanked the residents for providing the picnic and the funds for the prizes. The Rev. Mr Morrison acknowledged his indebtedness to the teacher (Mr Goldsman) in connection with the Soripture class.
