WALLACE A. AND P. SHOW.

I . (FbOM OtTE OwW COKRBSPOKDEHT.) ; INVERCARGILIi, November 27. I Th« fouxth annual show of the Wallace t Ml. and F. Association was held at Otautau * to-day under the most favourable condi- '" tiora, the weather being delightful and ,ih« attendance large. The gate takings [ amounted- to £52, which is about the same t «a last year, but a comparison of the catal logues shows a remarkable increase in the I number of exhibits, every ola^», with the : exception of pigs* being well filled. This r year's entries totalled 558, as against 357 last year, the principal increases being: — r Horses 82, sheep 54, and dairy produce 41. The most important section was. of course, the draughts, and of these it may be said tfbat the quality was particularly good. In fact, the judge remarked they were equal to anything appearing in the Christ- - ohurch show rings. ~ In the first clase for' ■ lour-ye*r-old entires, a splendid ring of five came forward, Mr Duncan Sling securing L first prise with his well-known horse TweedS" Bide, Mr D. Clark's crowned King being \ tecond, and Kennedy Bros. Bobbie Burns ; third. In the three-year-old class, Mr f J. Beck was awarded pride of place for ' a fine-looking colt by Herdsman, and Mr J. B. Ford, with Garthland'e Pride, * secured first honours in the two-year-olds. 'A good competition was witnessed in the -one-year-old section, a dozen coming "forward. The first prize was awarded to Mr IA. Hall for a Clydesdale Laddie colt, a fcalf-brother to Miss King, and also to the 300-guinea mare Queen Ag. ■ The veld znare class was undoubtedly the best' of the day, and Messrs Gray and Sons' Nellie . Gray followed up her Oamaru success by carrying off first honours, and- also the champion certificate. In the Sires 1 Produce Stakes the prize for the best colt went to Mr A. Hall's Clydesdale Laddie, while Mr Ewan's Garthland succeeded as the ibesfc filly. These two sires and Tarn o' Shsnter tied for the special prize for most points in both classes, the two first-named securing a first each, while Tarn o' Shanter obtained a eeoond and third. The entries for the thoroughbred ceotions were disappointing as regards numbers, although the quality was fairly satisfactory. The three year-old stallion Chatsjworth secured championship honours unopposed, and Mr W. ■Kennedy bad a walk-over for the champion mare. The hackney and^harness sections were very well filled, and iiv the light harness class a splendid ring of 17 came forward. The prizo for the best lady rider * vns awarded to Miss Devery. and in the lady hack- competition Mr P. Fahey's bay gelding wan successful after a close contest. Amaru? the cattle the best entries were made: .of crossbred*, Messrs H. Gould 1 and Sons being the most successful exhibitors, while Mr R. Cupples, jun., scoured most of the honours for fat cattle. Mr John M'Croetio was most prominent in the sheep section, securing the champion certificate for Border Leioestere and English Ijeicestere. The dairy produce attracted a good deal of attention. Miss May, of Winton, carried off most of the honours, and won the silver cup for highest aggregate. This is the second time in succession ' that Mi6S May has won the Cup, which now becomes her property. A feature of this section was the- display of fancy butter, for which Mica May secured first and second, with two artistic designs. Th« officials are deserving of special mention for-" {heir excellent' management, the general opinion being that the show was the best held in Southland for some considerable time. The purchaser, who did not want the noble steed, took the saddle and bridle off, and offered tho animal to a lad for nothing, but the offer was refused, and the horse was turned adrift.
