A. AND P. SHOWS.

TOKOMAIRIRO. The forty-second annual stock how of the Tokomairiro Farmers' Club was held on the Show Grounds, Milton, yesterday. The day was fine and the attendance large. The entries on the whole were larger than at previous shows, the increase being ohiefly in sheep and draught horses. Cattle showed a slight falling away in the number of entries, but the quality, taken all round, was good, this being particularly the casein regard to Ayrshires and Shorthorns, some of the latter comparing favourably with the beat in any riatrct ring show in the province. The draught horses were a good class all round, excepting the sires, but the mares and fillies were a very good j class, Herd Laddie's stock coming out j well in the awards. The light horses were a considerable improvement on those at previous shows, the 13st section, in which Mr Patrick's cob took the honours, being a large and good class. The 15st section class were also a good lot. In sheep, the Border Leiceste'ra were an improvement on the stock shown at previous shows, the champion ram being bred by Mr W. Grey (Milburn), and the champion ewe was also bred by the same exhibitor. The champion ewe in English Leicesters was also a good animal, as was also the champion Romney ram hogget. A mistake was made — a common one — of mixing hoggets and aged rams in the same- class, thus -causing them to compete with each other; and the same remark" applies to ewes and ewe hoggets. The Downs were a fair lot, end the crossbreds were very good. The fat lambs, especially the first pen, were a. good exhibit a«d superior to the second pen, although the latter were perhaps heavier. The sheep, on the whole, were in good health, clean, and in first-class condition, and compared favourably with any 6hown at recent district shows; the fat sheep being also a fine exhbiit. The Minister of La.yds and Agriculture (the Hon. B» M'&ab), in company with Mr Bruce (Chief Inspector of Stock for Otago), visited the ground during' the day, and on arrival, in company with Mr James Allen. M.P., was received with applause and cheers. The Dunedin Highland Pipe Band was also present, and played selections during the day. The takings at the gate for the day were £47 3s 6d, as jompared with £50 lls 3d the previous year. Produce, although not a large section in point of numbers, was excellent in quality.
