CHURCH SOCIAL AT DUNROBIN.

The annual social of the Presbyterian Church was held on Tuesday, November 26. A very large number of people were present, the seating accommodation being taxed to the utmost. Visitors attended from Beaumont, Park Hill, Heriot, and Crookston. Proceedings weTe opened by the congregation singing the Hundredth Psalm, after which the chairman (Rev. Mr Collie) engaged in prayer. An excellent programme had beer arranged, and the various performers were well received. The following items were given: — Quartet "Onwards," Mrs C. S. Duff, Mies Edie, and Messrs G. F. Duff and R. K. Edie ; solo, "Two cities," Mrs Scott ; solo, "Only tired," Mia* Adams. After this item the Chairman called on the Rev. Mr Waugh (Tapanui) to address the meeting. Mr Waugh expressed pleasure at being present, and gave a- very -thoughtful address on "The Power of Example." "The Holy City" was sung by Miss M'Fadyen and "Lead kindly light" by Mr B. Sim. At this stage the Chairman called on Mr D. M'Lennan, and said that he had asked him to perform a very pleasing duty. Mr M'Lennan then, in a few wellchosen words, spoke of the valuable assistance rendered to the church by Miss Edie as organist and her brother, Mt R. K. Edie. As precentor, and on behalf of the congregation, he asked them to accept a small present 418 a mark, of appreciation. He then handed to Miss Edie a case containing a handsome ••t of silver-backed hair brushes and mirror Initialled M.8.E., and to Mr Edie a set of

gold sleeve-links witb his initials R.K.E engraved. Tlhe Rev. Mr Collie said that he could not let the occasion pass without expressing his own and the congregation's indebtedness to Miss Edie and her brother. Mr E'die, in replying on behalf of his sister and himself, thanked the congregation for the handsome presents given them, and said that they had been only too pleased to render assistance. A quartet, "How excellent," was then sung by Mrs C. S. Duff. Miss Edie, and Messes Ot. F. Duff and R. K. Edie, after which an abundant supply of refreshments provided by the ladies was handed round, and an enjoyable, hour spent in social chat. The second part of the programme was then opened with a quartet, "-i/he unseen city," by Misses J. Sim and Davidson, Messrs R. and G. Sim (Crookston) ; solo, "The lost chord," Miss M'Fady-en; encore, "Only a beam of sunshine"; solo, "Plymouth Hoe," Mr Johnstone (Beaumont); solo, "The better land," Mrs G. Edie ; quartet, "Jerusalem, my glorious home," Mrs C S. Duff, Miss Edie, Messrs G. F. Duff an-. R. K. Edie. The Chairman called on Mr M*Lennan (Home Missionary, Beaumont), who, after a few remarks of a humorous nature, gave an excellent address, taking for his subject cricket. Mr M'Lennan drew comparisons between the journey through life and a game of cricket, and was warmly applauded on concluding. The solo, "The link divine,' was sung by Miss Adams, followed by "Nearer, my God, to Thee," by Mr R. K. Edie. Mrs Scott pave a recitation, "Trouble in the Amen Corner," and a quartet, "The Lord's Prayer," was rendered by Mrs C. S. Duff, Miss Edie. and Messrs G. F. Duff and R. K. Edie. The accompanists for the evening were the Misses Edie, Pretsch. S. Adam*, and J. Sim. On the motions of Messrs* C. S. Duff ■*.. G. M'Kenzie, and G. F. Duff, hearty votes of thanks were accorded to the ladies of the district, the singers, and the speakers. After a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman the audience joined in the singing of "God be with you till we meet again." The benediction wa3 then pronounced by the Rev. Mr Wangh.
