ACHARGE OF MURDER
VIENNA, July, 23. Dr Hau, an American lawyer, who was sentenced to death at Karlsruhe for shooting his mother-in-law, after telephoning her to meet him at Baden-Baden, in November last, in order to obtain her fortune, has appealed against the verdict. While he was awaiting trial his wife committed suicide in the lake at Zurich. On June 7 a well-dressed woman arrived at Pfaefnkon from Zurich and proceeded to the bathing establishment on the lake. Some time afterwards her dead body was found floating on the surface. A letter was found in the woman's clothing stating that she could not bear being separated from her husband any longer. The remains were identified as those of the wife of Karl Hau, who was retained at Karlsruhe on a charge of murdering his mother-in-law at Baden-Baden. Karl Hau. who was a lawyer from Washington, was extradited from England on December 20 last on a charge of wilfully murdering his mother-in-law, Frau Molior.
