OTAGO COAL MINERS' UNION.
The annual meeting of the Otago Coal Miners' Union waa hold in Burrell's Hail, Kaitangata, on Saturda3 T , July 20, Mr A. We6ton presiding. The balance sheet showed a total income of £786 3s 2d, including- balance from previous year of £306 2s sd ; the expenditure waa £551 6s Bd, thus leaving a credit balance of £234- 16s 6d. The committee's seporfc showed that the union had improved the status of jriners throughout the district, although there was still room for improvement, and several matters affecting their welfare were pending a settlement by the Arbitration Court. — The report and balance sheet were adopted. The ballot throughout the district for the election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr D. Howie; general secretary, Mr A. Forbes (re-eleoted) ; treasurer, Mr N. M'Kenzie; executive — Messrs W. Crow, D. Coulter, A. Weeton, T. Sharp, sen. ; auditors, Messrs H. Bennett and W. Buchanan. The elected officials suitably returned thanks. It -was unanimously resolved that Mr Western write to Mr W. D. Ma&on, aiking him to give a political address in Kaitangata at an early date.
