PALMERSTON N., July 26. The New Zealand 'Farmers' Dairy -Union i balance sheet just issued shows that the union had a prosperous year. Two hun- . dred and twenty-one new chares had been issued, *nd £4637 distributed, amoopfc shareholders, in addition to the monthhr payments. Durinr the season 867 tons of butter had. been manufactured, beinx 16 tons in excels of last year. After careful consideration', the- directors decided not to ereot cheese plants, but to continue butter-, making. During the year the union advanced £65,770 against butber-fat received. The gross proceeds of the sales amounted io £93,768. There is still in hand £3158 for distribution amongst suppliers and shareholders. The quantity of milk received was 45,761,0931b. It took an average of 23.351b of milk to make a pound of butter. The tests ran«ed from 3.38 to 5.03, the average being- 4.8. The amount of butter made was 1,943,2581b.
To the great delight of resident* of Kaftangata (save the Milton Mirror), the scow Magio, with a cargo of timber from Tautuku, sailed up to Coalopolis on Friday morning. There was plenty of water oa the bar, and she came up splendidly, after having to lie off the Nuggets for a time owing to the rough weather. The* Magus takes in a cargo of coal and proceeds to Stewart Island.
