How He Lost It.
A philanthropic old gentleman was passing through a yubmban street the other day
(says the Tailut) when he noticed a woebegone little boy crying bitterly. His sympathies were at once aroused. "What is the matter, my little man?" he asked. "I-I-I've I-I-lost a penny, an'-an' it was all I had," sobbed the little innocent. raind, never mind." quoth the benevolent stranger, "that's all right. Here's another one to replace it." 'Thankeej sir," said the boy. '£But you didn't tell me how you losii it," the benefactor remarked, as if by an afterthought. "Playin' pitch-an'-toss," shouted the young 5 hopeful as he ecudded away, leaving hia interlocutor a poorer, if not a wiser, man.
