CHARGE OF SHOOTING
SALUTARY PUNISHMENT. LONDON, July 26. Charles Smith has been sentenced to penal servitude for life, and a- woman named Churchill, alias " Chicago May," to imprisonment for 15 yeans for attempting to murder Eddie Tauerin in June last. At the end of last month Smith and : *' Chicago May" were committed for trial 'on * charge of shooting at and. laming Eddie Tauerin, at London. The parties belonged to a notorious e&ng of Anglo* American thieves. Tauerin lately escaped from IJeviTß Island, off the coast of French Xruian*, where lie was under a sentence of 10 years' imprisonment for forgery in France. ________________
