W. Webb, the New Zealand sculler, is putting in good work near Sydney for his match with Charles Town* for the championship of the world, to be rowed on August 3. He is in excellent health, and getting some good sprints out of the new Hculler built for him^ by George Towns W«bb will hare the services of Jack MitchelL in his last week's training. The Davis Cap, the international trophy, was won by Australasia by three events to two. Gore and Roper-Barrett (British Isles) beat Brookes and Wilding (Australasia) in the doubles competition for the Davis Cup. Scores: 3—6, 4—5,4 — 5, 7—5, 6—2, 13^-11. In the tenth game of the third set Brookes and Wilding were within a stroke, of winning. In the singles event Gore beat Wilding (3-6, 6-3, 7—5, 6-2), but Brookes beat Roper-Barrett (6—2 6-0, 6—3). The conditions were 18 birds, unknown angles. The day was an ideal one for shooting, and good scores were made, no less than three —Messrs Gillespie, Scott, and Wha-len —tieing- with 16 birds. It was decided "to shoot another nine birds to ' decide the winner, and Whalen won. with eight breaks. The shooting on the part of other members was a'«o above the average.
