LARGE PU RCHASE OF SCOWS.
AUCKLAND, July 26 A somewhat important shipping deal took place this week, the Ford Line (Limited) having purchased the whole of Mr George T. Niccol's fleet of scows, including one now building. The Ford Line will now consist of 12 of the most modern and up-to-date timber-carrying scows. Ihe vessels purchased include the Curlew, Gannet, Seagull, Ranger, and Moa 'now building). The Ford Line have contracted with the Kauri Timber Company for carriage of all their timber from coast ports to Auckland for a number of years, including the towage of logs. Since the visit of the Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister of Marine, to Auckland there has been renewed confidence in the scow class of vessel. Whilst in Auckland Mr Millar, by personal inspection and inquiry into scows, stated that he was perfectly satisfied as to their safety, and that his opinion of them had been decidedly altered.
