WARE PA.
July 29.—The weather has been very seasonable—dry and frosty. Some farmers would like more rain, as the lea ground is still very hard, an unusual thing at this time of the year. Farm Work.—Ploughing is still the arSer of the day, and from, all appearances large areas are to be sown in grain and root crops this year. I notice Messrs Jack and D. Sheddan are breaking up their newly- [ acquired properties, part of Carterhope Es- : taie. which is about the last tussock ground , suitable for ploughing. [ Changes.—Mir Alex. Smith, -Who left this district a few years ago, is again going to take up a farm here, having bought "Bankfoot." which was originally occupied by lir G. Smith, sen. Mr Smith is having the steading removed to the top of the hill near the public road, which will be much more convenient than down on tb« flat. Mr John
Ayson has the work in hand. Mr Andrew Meffat has sold his'farm on account of hishealth, and I hear he intends going further north. BalL —The annual bachelors' ball was held in the Warepa Hall on Friday evening, July 19. Fortuna-iely the night was- fine, frosty, and moonlight, and there was a record attendance, visitors being present from Romahapa, Port Molyneux, Waiwera, Balclutha, etc Needless to say, under the a-b"e management of Messrs C. Crawford, I. Sarginson, J. Laing, and G. Jack, everything w-ent off well, and all spent a pleasant evening. Mr Boyd (Balclutha) supplied the refreshments in a lavish style, and .Roberts Bros. (Kaihiku) supplied the musio to the satisfaction of all. Accident.—The sympathy of all in the district has been extended to MY and 1 Mrs- D. Farquhar, who recently lost their little boy Bertie by a very sad accident. ' !
