CAPTURE OF SIR H. MACLEAN.
MOROCCO, July 22. The efforts of the Shereef of Wazan to get troops to assist in the release of Kaid Sir' Harry Maclean have failed, and he has returned to Alcazar. j . July 23. j A force of 1273* men has left Fez to ; operate against Raisuli. Another force leaves Tetuan to-day. Raisuli refuses to negotiate for Kaid Sir Harry Mac Lean's release excepting with those Powere who alone are able to restore his governorship of the . mountain ; tribes. i July 26. Raisuli declares that if the tribesmen, at the Sultan's command, attack him he will | kill Sir Harry Mac Lean. ; LONDON, July 25. The Daily Mail states that Raisuli has compelled all retainers to withdraw from Kaid Mac Lean's camp, and that the posi- , tion is becoming dangerous. , July 26. Reuter's Tangier correspondent states | that a messenger has returned from Raisuli's camp. He states that the mass of the tribe is willing to surrender Kaid Sir Harry Mac Lean provided the Sultan personally proceeds to their,, country to pardon them, to excuse them from service in the Imperial army, and to relieve them of taxes. The tribe refuses to deliver up Raisuli, but* guarantees his good behaviour if he is pardoned and his property returned.
