UNION JACK CLUB.
LONDON, July 1. Owing to the King's intimation that ho would prefer tr> open the Union Jack Club (a memorial of the South African war) free of debt, nearly £13,000 was subecribed in a, few days. Mr William Austin Horn, formerly of Sontli gave £5000. July 2. 'ilw Union Jack Club cost £80,000. Tiie King commended the generosity of th© subscribers, especially the two whose final large contributions cleared the debt off the building. During the year ending on the 6th ulfc. 823 persons w«r© confirmed by the Bishop of Wellington. Of these 327 were male* and 496 females.
