WEST COAST.
Mr_ T. T. Seddon, M.H.R., Immediately; after "his election commenced an ., extensive tour of the Westland electorate, visiting every part and looking into general requirements. He returned to Bokitjka on Wednesday, having met wiiS a meet cordial reception everywhere. A very successful function was held in his honour in the evening, t when the young -New Zealanders of the town and country presented Kirn with a suitably* inscribed gold pen and pencil. Complimentary speeches were made regarding the straight and honourable manner in which he had conducted the eleotion campaign. The demand for coal at the present time is very keen, and tlje West Coast opal , companies are finding it a difficulii matter {to keep pace with the ever increasing orders. The Karamea Syndicate has engaged Mr Sydney Fry, direotor of the Westport School of Mines, to visit Mount Radiant^ north- , of "W«Btport, and report on its discovery of what appears to be a very rich lead containing gold, silver, copper, and molybde- , nite. The funeral of the late Dean Martin took place on Thursday, and was one of the largest that ha? ever taken place at Hokitik*. Visitors from all parts of tho colony '■ were pre&ent. The services were conducted by the Vicar-general of Canterbury, asieted by other numerous clergy.
