A KEYNOTE.
Oh. for a burst of springiide glory Over the hills of our island home; Oh, for a flood of cheerful sunlight. On leaping fountains and ocean's foam. Oh for the blueness of summer skies, And sweet flowers from the sodden earth; The merry bleatings from pastured flocks, And sweet echoes of children's mirth. Waken, ye glades,, to the softer winds, That sport 'mid the forest trees, Till they hasten to dress in brightest green, And give themselves to the breeze. The frosts of Winter are long and cold, And icy his close embrace; His presence is very weariness, And drear his yresting place. We long for coming freedom and light, Of song and warmth and flowers : Welcome, thrice welcome, to lovely Spring, With its treasure of happy hours. —-A.. JJDunedin, August 10.
