THE BRITISH ARMY.
THE REDUCTION PROGRAMME.
LONDON, July 50.
King Edward, when inspecting and farewelling the Third Battalion of th« Scots Guards, who are dispensed with uuder the new army scheme, regretted that shortly they would be disbandeu. He never saw a finer body of men, and he promised to preserve their colours at Buckingham Palace. His Majesty hoped that either he or his successors would see a third battalion carry arms again*
When addressing the Scots Guards, King Edward alluded to "my Government, who considers it necessary to reduce the expenses of the aimy." This has caused much comment, and it is inferred that it is intended to disclaim Ministerial action.
