CHESS IN DUNEDIN.
At the Oiago Chess Club's Rooms, last Wednesday night, Mr David Forsyth, Senior Club champion and ex-champion of New Zealand, ~ gave an exhibition of simultaneous play at chess, encountering single-handed. 14 opponents. The contest commenced at 8 o'clock, and lasted three hours and th-nes-quarters-, the moves on each side being made with 8-tudious deliberation. E. Wolstenholme 0 8£ Totals 6J Mr Forsyth adopted a variety of openings, principally the King's Bishop's Gambit. King's Gambit, and Vienna At the conclusion of the performance, Mr F. J. Mouat, on behalf of tlie assembled players, moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Forayth, remarking that an exhibition of this kind stimulated a healthy interest in the game of chess, whilst indicating the possession on the part of the single-handed performer of mental powers of a high order. The motion was carried by acclamation.
