INVERCARGILL D.LF. LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY.
Dear Dot — The ordinary weekly meeting of the Lnvercargill Literary and Debating Society was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Tay street, on July 4. There were present of the committee — Maidie M. (in the chair). Dado, Hazel, Zea,'ia. Queen Bess, and Rondina'.la. Tlie subject for debate was, "Which Causes the Most Crime — Poverty, Wealth, or Ignorance?" "Poverty" was taken by Dado and Tika, "Weahh" by Queen ness, Zeaha, and MiHicent, ar'l "Ignorance" by Hazel. Hona, and Maidie. As ther* were an equal number of votes for each side the result was left as a. draw. The following papers were also read — '"In K>rk," by Harry , "Sunday Observance." by Wil'ow Brook, "Is Pia-in Speaking Wise?" by Zeaha A very interesting letter was alfo read from the pa'.ron (Blondel). The meeting adjourned early, sis there wert so few members present.
