No sooner had the horses assembled' at the post than Black Arrow began to show temper, and Mx Hall Walker's unruly colt bolted right away to the Dip. He was. however (says an exchange) at last brought into line, and, as so often happens in such rases, was the first away on the raising of the barrier. The start was anything but a good one, and the chief sufferer was Bill of th* Play, who was turned the wrong way, a-nd lost many lengths. Black Arrow, showing j great spaed, led for half a mile, but waa done I for at the bushes, where Adinirab'e Crichton I took a slight lead of Ramrod. Both of these colts swerved, however, and Gorgos then took up the running from the Dame Agneta colt. Ramrod was quickly straightened, and | in the Dip, where Gingal andl Admirable j Crichton were beaten, he took close order with the leaders. A desperate race home resulted, but Gorgos just managed to hold his own, and pulled through by a head, with Dame Agneta colt second, a nock in front of Ramrod. Beppo, Admirable Crichton, and Black Arrow finished next in the order i\jmed, but Gingal, who gave a very poor (show, passed the poet no nearer than ■eighth. Time, lniin 43 4-seec. Betting- 11 to 10 on Fair, 5 to 1 each agst Victorious and Ulalume, 100 to 7 Suow G'.ory, and 20 to 1 each the others. The race fully bore out expectations, for Flair took a clear lead when the bushes were reached, and won easily by three lwgths in the good time of lniin 40 3-ssec.
