IMPORTANT DISCOVERY OF COAL. WESTPORT, May 14.
An important discovery of coal on the Westport-Stockton Coal Mining Company's property at Ngaka^vau is reported. - The find practically proves the extension of a - lower scam similar to the Coalbrookdalo underlying about 1000 acres of the property and an upper seam of hard, bright eoaf o! excellent quality and about 6ft in thickness underlying an area of about 500 acres. The lower eeam is from. 16ft to 30ffe in thickness, and is stated to be equal to Ihe very bc-..t c'tiaiily of eoai produced from tlio Buller coalfields. In addition to the "above-, on the western boundary 300 acres contains a visible extension of the Granity Creek , beam, with about three million and a-halff tons of coal, bringing the aggregate up to 26£ million tone, or equal to an output 06 a quarter of a million tons per year fcr a century.
