FINANCIAL RESULTS OF THE YEAR. WELLINGTON, May 8. The accounts for the year have been certified to by the Deputy-auditor and Controller-general, and there are no tags. In the annual appropriations the increases and decreases were : —Legislature, decrease, £795; Colonial Secretary, increase, £14,261; Public Health, decrease. £15,905; Industries and Commerce and Tourists, decrease, £20,753; Colonial Treasurer, decrease, £4572; Old-age Pensions, decrease, £275; Minister of Justice, decrease, £18,738; Crown Law Department, decrease. £92; Postmaster-general, de- | crease, £8475; Commissioner of Trade and Customs, decrease, £1826; Marine and Harbours, etc., decrease, £2075; printing and stationery, increase, £54; Commissioner of Stamps, decrease, £365; Education Department, decrease, £20,321; Lunacy and Charitable Department, increase, £919; Department of Labour, increase. £551; Minister of Mines, decrease, £6236; Minister of Agriculture, decrease, £9191; working railways, decrease, £58,599; Minister for Pubiic Works, decrease, £2142; Defence Department, decrease, £17,739; Police Department, docrease, £2592; Department of Lands and Survey, decrease, £22,635; Valuation Department, increase, £652; services not provided for, increase. £7921. Total annual appropriations: Estimated, £4,441,262; actual, £4.252,233; total actual "expenditure annual appropriations less than estimate, £258,804. Total estimated expenditure permanent and annual appropriations, £7.292,560: total actual expenditure, £7122 340. This shows that tho actual expenditure was less than the estimated by £170,220. Analysis of inciease in expenditure 1905-6, as compared with previous year: — 1905-6, £7.122.340; 1904-5. £6,635.902; —increase, £486,438. Accounted for as follows :—lnterest,:—lnterest, £93,000; subsidies to hospitals and payments to local bodies, £35 000: old-age pensions, £60.000; electoral, £50.000; education. £70.000; railways. £124.000; post and telegraphs, £19,000; lands and survey. £28.000; lunacy and hospitals, £11.000; roliee, £4000; Customs and marine, £10 000; mines. £5000; Exhibition, £13,000;— total, £522,000. Savings.—On defence, £28,000: public health, £8,000;— total savings, £36,000. Public Works Fuxd—Transfers from Revenue. Total amount transferred from revenue to Public Works Fund since 1891, £4,855.000.

Public Works Fund, 1905-6. Results: — Balance from last year, £861,670; receipts loan money, £850,851; transfer from revenue, other receipts, £3189: — total, £1,354,040. Total receipts, £2,215.710.
