Ths drummer turned red and white, and could not say a word, and the calm and collected young lady continued: "'You ha-.e a serious and intellectual look, and I do not think I maue a mjsiake in sizing yov v.p. You aie a student of theology."' "Ye= — yes'm, I am," he stammered. "You love and Tevereuee the Bible, of course?" "Of course." "I am glad* to" hear it. Have you much of a library of religious works?" "Well — cr — no, but hope to have some day." "Have you the Oxford edition of the 'Life of Noah' among your volumes?" "Weller — you know, I am going to get it in Chicago," he Jamelv replied. "How nice that I can save you the trouble ' Here is the book, and I will take your name and address. The price is 7dol, and I -will lend you this copy to read for a couple of hours. What name, please?" "But. you see '" "It will he delivered in 20 days. You have jour choice of two bindings." He tried to =ay something, but words failed him. and he handed her his card and made fcr the smoking compartment. Two other drummers were there, and they looked in; and smiled. "What's the matter?"' asked the hardware man. "She struck both of us before you tried it on. Keep quiet. The fruit tree man from New Jersey will be number four.
