THE CHIEF MAN IN THE NEW FRENCH MINISTRY.
MINISTRY. (M. A. P.)
The nominal head of the new French Ministry, as everybody knows, is M. Sarrien. But it is equally well-known that M- Sarrien is surrounded by subordinates who are more gifted than himself. M. Bourgeois, for example, has been Prime Minister ; at one time was even a favourite candidate for the Presidency, and represents a great deal of the best political intelligence of France. M. Poincarre is the leader of the French bar, and might be anything. And, above all, there is among the Ministers, nominally subordinate to M. Sarrien, that strange, picturesque, portentous figure, M. Clemenceau.
