STEWED FIGS
Pick the stalks from Jib of cooking figs, and tut off any discoloured parts, and soak overnight in cold water. Pixt the figs into a saucepan in the water of which they were soaked, and add the juice and rind of 'half a lemon. Bring to the boil, s*sw very gently till quite soft. This tnny take one hour, or longer, ilomovo the lemon rind, and put the figs into a deep dish. Add sugar to the juice, let it boil for five minutes. Pou r this over the figs
