A SUNDAY STRANGERS' TEA.
Every Sunday brings its new visitors to the city, and some of these can always be seen at the Young Men's Christian Association Sunday social tea. The scene that meets the eye of the visitor to the rooms is an inspiring one in more senses than one. Three lonjr tables with white tablecloths, palms, flowers, and abundance of eatables inaka the large room a most attractive appearance. A special committee of men look after this work and carries it out with a« much skill as a good tablemaid. The flowers sent in week by week by the Women's Committee assist much in brightening the rooms. On Sunday night all the tables were surrounded by men. The secretary was in the chair, and gave a short account of the Christchurch and Wellington work, and also brought greeting from Mr D. A. Budge (of Montreal), at present in Wellington. The Christchurch Association is now back again in its own builc 5 ""- which is being furnished anew. Mr D. Mill has been appointed permanent secretary, and the work is going ahead rapidly. In \V ell ington the association has outsrrown its present building, and the business men are coming to the assistance of the Board of Management and subscribing towards a new building estimated to cost £10,000. When .complete this building will be the only modern V.M.C.A. home in Australasia. Mr Budge has boon more than 30 years secretary of the Montreal Association, which association, says J. R. Mott, " is one of the strongest Christian organisation in North America." and "Mr Budge one of the foremost leaders of aggressive Christian' forces at work amongst young men and boys in Canada." He arrives in Dunedin on the 23rd inst. in the interests of the Dunedin Association. A solo by Mr F. Findlav and a trio by members of the V.M.C.A. brought last night's meeting to a close.
