BUTTER BLENDING. LONDON, May 12.
Mr Tavener (Victorian Agent-general) giving evidence before the Butter Committee, advocating the stoppage of all manipulation and marking with milk, blending, or the addition of foreign fats. He would make it a serious offence, punishable with imprisonment the second time. He advocated the prohibition of the blending of colonial with pure English or Irish butter. Although he was aware that the largest proportion of Victorian butter was now sold 1 by blunders, the Victorians would prefer the butter to be zoli honestly for what it was. He would like to see all butters in the retail shops market with the name of the country of origin. Mr Cameron., the New Zealand Produce
Commsisioner, testified that his Government advocated the prohibition- of blending. He did not fear that trade would decline if blending were stopped.
