HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD Of

The regular meeting of the High Schools Board of Governors, held on Thursday afternoon, was attended by Messrs J.^ R. Sinclair (chairman), J. M. Gallaway, T. Mackenzie, M.H.R., the Hon. T. Fergus, and Dr Church. An apology for absence was received from Mr T. K. Sidey. M.H.R. Accounts and salaries amounting to £487 13s 6d were passed for payment. The bank books, laid on the table, showed that, after paying all accounts, there was a credit balance of £33 12s lOd. W. F. Inder, solicitor for the Wyndham Coal Syndicate, wrote making a formal application to surrender a coal lease. — Accepted. The Controller and Audiror-general returned the board's balance sheet, which he _ certified to. with the exception of an item of £16 7s lid lor travelling expenses, in- - curred in 1903. — Noted. A transfer of lease from Nicholas Moloney (Rock and Pillar) to George Esther w*» agreed to on the usual conditions. The Education Department forwarded a memo, relating to the free secondary education, and asked that certain information might be supplied. — Information to bo furpished. The Secretary reported that he had advertised the sale of leases, Strath-Taieri. in terms of the recommendation pf John

Elliott. — It was decided that sections 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, block XIV, StrathTaieri, be put up in one lot. The sections contained approximately 39 acres. The Rector of the Boys' High School wrote seating that, subject to the board's approval, arrangements ivere being made for a display of physical training, with a view to providing funds for a swimming bath for the boys' school. He asked the board to consider the question of site. — It was agreed that members of the Aboard visit the locality for the purpose of making an inspection.
