A MEMBER OF THE C.C.C. VISITS THE D.L.F. L. AND D. CLUB.

Dear Dot, — The alphabetical portions of the Witness fused the other night, when- a" member of tho C.C.C. strayed for a little while into D.L.F. quarters. Weakened by nine late nights and nine days' hard sight-seeing,' the member was not in a .fit condition" to do more than annex the first seat that" offered and tai«rinw*ra notes. >As -a result"6f thisTshe would like to tell Dot that she came away— ~ reluctantly, and unavoidably early— wi than increased interest m D.L.F. and a proper respect for its ' business-like methods." • s She" 4 prefers- to make ' her own speeches with a pencil *and a piece of paper on her knee, and from that place of vantage would like to congratulate Harry on his share in a debate, of which she much wished' to hear the whole. Personally; her idea of the mdst mono"tonous, disagreeable work in" the- world is— getting up in the morning. One may live to be ,1200, but one never (gets -ahead of this ; nor does it become , more interesting with practice. Besides, there is always tho dread that to-morrow morning may be colder yet. - '■„-. When asked to suggest- a subject for debate, she had none on hand; but"' she wo^d much like to know what gift of the gods/each D.L.F. would choose could they have but one. The most satisfying, in her opinion, would ba a "glide conceit. o' yersel'." Imagine the delight of feeling that one always drd-and said the right thing, and that/I don't know " or "I can't" was a "really ""witty and original remark. The member wishes to tell Awkward Ned that she was much, pleased at his kindly welvoaup, un& imwh «pset «J the ihauglit that she ought to respond" to it. But this the meeting would probably realise for themselves. In conclusion, she would like to say that as both C.C. end D.L.F. members take pride' in their own clubs, so she thinks that they -ought to take pride in each other's cliib3, 'as all work, or should work, together for the same ends— -these being friendship, improvement, and a generous appreciation- of. Ifhe qualities of others. . \ TJED.-' [I need scarcely say how delighted Dot was io learn that the club had been honoured with - a. visit from- so .popular a member' of Einme-~ line's talented band of writers as-Ted.'- Such an evidence oi,the interest taken by.the'merni' bers .of thT-se&ior club in "the" affairs of * the junior club is as gratifying to Dot; as it cannot' help being to "all D:L.F. I trust we, shall see the C.C.C. steadily strengthened as time gce3 on by th» accession of D.L.F.- old writers, who are compelled by the" inexorable flight of time to retire from active participation in D.L.F. affairs, but will welcome the opening of an avenue for the further improvement of their literary abilities such as the C.C.C. presents. One of the most talented of former D.L.F.— Taffy— has been an appreciated member or the C.C.C. ior some- time,' and Boby and Jessica will, I feel sure, also be welcomed with open arms to its ranks ; but in addition to these there are several others — Mountain Rambler, Venetia Corona, Paparoa, etc., for, instance — who are also quite qualified to take part in C.C.C. affairs, and I trust before the year is cut to see several ex-D.L.F. joining Emmeline's band as "opportunity presents itself. I sincerely thank Ted for her kindly sympathy, and also for her welcome letter. — DOT.]
