Mr Seddon informed me yesterday that he is in receipt of sheaves of telegrams from people all over the colony who are anxious to pet information about relatives l-esident in San Francisco. He has intimated to President Roosevelt, through the Governor and the Secretary of State for fche Colonies, that the people of New Zealand are anxicrus to show their sympathy in a practical manner by forwarding a contribution of 25,000d0l to the relief funds. Mr Seddon hopes for a favourable l'eply. He has cabled to the Government Agent (Mr Stevenson Smith) twice, to the Mayor of and ex-Mayor of 'Frisco, the State Governor, and "General Fun^ton, and the Postal Department has also cabled to its two mail agents, but so far no replies have come to any of these messages.
