The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association has decided, should sufficient inducement be acorded. to establish a drapery, clothing, and boot department in Dunedin, similar to the branch of business in these goods carried on by other farmers' co-operative societies in the .South Island. With this m view, a special issue of shares in the association is proposed. , , „ • A Wellington firm received the following cable message from Japan or. Monday respecting rice: — "Market continually rising everywhere. Great increase expected in price. This rise is attributed to the partial failure of the rice crops of Japan and Chin*, particularly iv the latter country, where the weather conditions have played havoc with the growing crops.
