HINDOO.

September 2.—The advent of September £6 minds me that we have once more safe]} emerged from the current winter, with alluts variety of storms, into a bright and glorious spring. The mild weather we have experienced during the past winter months, com- ■ bined with an almost entire absence-of snowstorms, has been quite phenomenal, but many; of the residents predict a very stormy, wet spring. As a matter of fact, rain is -much, wanted at time of writing to stimulate the growth of the pastures that are languishing for want of a heavy downpour. On the otherhand, the stock are looking well, for the simple reason* that .aot a single storm of any consequence has occurred in this district for several months past. However, there are indications of rain setting in. Money Order" Office.—lt has transpired (hat Mr D. M'Donald, member for the Deep ° Stream Eiding in the Taieri County Council, received a communication last week from Mi Donald Reid, "jun., M.H.R. for the Taieri, to the" effect that he had brought under the notice, .of the Ministry the matter of having a money .order office established at the Hindcn, Epst/Offiee. in compliance with ihe wishes of a large^ mtmb.er of- residents, and that the JPgsSfcnasterTgeneral was favourable-to a money ordejf: "office - being opened at Hindon at an early-.date*. It is" worthy of note that Mi Duncan M'Donald has merited the thanks of -the residents for lm untiring efforts in bring- \ ing any matter >f public importance to a successful issu». District Koads.—During my rambles fErough the district it has often- occurred to me that the Jlindon district roads are among ! the best-laid-out roads -that I have seen in. Otago CenirafT Th.3 surveyors deserve great credit for the manner in which they performed' their duties in the matter under notice. Th«i' travelling public have no difficulty in tht j matter of obstruction from reaching any farm i or small sheep station in any part of the dis-' trict; and as regards the manner in which the traffic roads are kept in order by the surfacenieii in charge, it must bs confessed that they perform their duties in a most efficient manner, which, to say the least, reflects Ihe highest credit upon the management. Notable Mr Isbister has proved himself a trustworthj servant in tha service of the Taieri County Council. , The Bunny Trade.—The bunny trade during j the past winter months, it may be truly said | has not assumed very large dimensions in this j district, eg onlj one rabbit-cait has been running through the district collecting rabbits ia be conveyed to the Hindon railway station for freezing purposes lower down country. The drastic measures adopted by the stock owners liere have reduced the peat to a minimum. Bands of men are still employed waging war against bunny. Big' cheques, how* ever, are a thing of the past in this district. Wedding Bells —An event of much interest in this neighbourhood took place on September 2, when Mi John T. Isbister, son of ECr John Isbistcr, of this district, was united in the holy bonda of wedlock to Miss Mina Robinson, daughter of Mrs Ross, Cumberland street, Dun« eclin. Mr John T. Isbister, it will bo rem?rri-> berecl, wa' a member of the Seventh New Zealand Contingent, which, took part in tie battla

The tosual toasts and "f clicita-tionsion heha&i of the •bride and bridegroom wore exprecsed, and amidst many hearty good wishes and much aice-throwing, tbs" married couple departed ~ jiorthwarda on their honeymoon. ;0n thedr re"4urn they in&snd takiiig up^heir rcsideaioe' at Jiokonga. Mr John-Isbister, sen., and his son kre highly esteemed, and ample tiestimonyoi ihis was shown by the numerous useful pxetente of which Mr John T.
